Producer, beat maker, emcee, one time drummer for H.R of the Bad Brains, guitar tech for the Grammy award winning group OK GO, record digger, world traveler, lover, fighter, Brooklyn resident, music extraordinaire Forth Star.
It all began in Worcester, MA in the early 90′s. Forth Star was a true Hip Hop head. He began DJing, rhyming, wrote graffiti, collected vinyl, and made beats. His talents flourished when he bought an MPC before it became an industry standard. Then came the 4 track, a new studio mic and he started teaching himself how to record his own songs. He formed a crew of emcees and beat makers called “Fort Mars”, a name given by Arablak. It happened one day at “The Fort” as they called it, when Arablak was freestyling while rhyming with Forth Star’s name and out came “Fort Mars”. Forth Star decided then and there, that name would represent his crew and home studio.
In 2003 Forth Star produced, recorded, and mixed majority of the Ethereal Plains album, “The Overwhelm”. During this time Forth Star bought his first drum set and taught himself how to play. Shortly after, he moved to Brooklyn and branched out into many different music genres playing drums. He played with all types of bands including Reggae, Hardcore, Flamenco, Hip Hop, Rock, Metal, and the list goes on.
In 2008, Forth Star reunited with Ethereal and released “Excellent and Pathetic The EP”. The musical chemistry between the two is so incredible that they recorded the whole project in one day on New Years eve in Forth Star’s home in Brooklyn. Currently Forth Star has formed his own group of live musicians called “Deeprest”. His focus has shifted from the drums back to the microphone, but don’t think he has abandoned the music. He writes, produces, and records all of Deeprest’s material and they can be found performing all over the east coast.
