       When you ask the everyday average joe who his or her favorite female emcee or rapper is, you are most likely to hear names such as Lil Mama, Eve, Lil Kim (who in my opinion is a better dancer than rapper), or Remy Martin (who is currently serving time for shooting a friend over money).  Maybe if that person is somewhat on their game you may hear Rah Digga and folks who keep their ear to the street will name artists such as Jean Grea or Invincible.  Female emcees have always had a hard time in the Hip Hop game.  In todays corporate controlled media if she isn’t some type of thugged out ghetto sex kitten, a female can basically forget about ever obtaining any sort of mainstream success. But there is light at the end of the tunnel.Lets take it back to Norfolk Virginia for a minute. I use to attend an open mic every Monday night called Word Of Mouth. It was there that I was introduced to a group of female emcees called “The Gypcess”.  These four young women were so well respected that just the mention of their name at any local Hip Hop function would send the crowd into a frenzy.  But there was one member of the group who really stood out her name was Ghagged.  

Ghagged is a true emcee in every sense of the word. I once watched her totally destroy a dude in battle, it was crazy. She was just rhymin’ then something happened and she snapped; literately!  It was like something had taken over her soul. Not only is she one of the illest emcees I’ve ever met, but she can sing too. I’ve managed to keep in touch with her over the years and was wondering when she was gonna release a solo project. 

Well the wait is over. Ghagged’s Lost Scripts is here. A collection of nine songs that is really a sneak preview of a future release called Called “Ghagged 3.0”.  If this is any indication of the fire thats to come, then I am advising you to keep a bucket of water near what ever listening device you choose to play her music on. If you dig positive inspirational true school hip hop, then this is the album for you. One thing that really stands out is her lyrical content. On tracks such as “Fo Yo Soul” Ghagged gracefully edutains the listener on the tricknology of living for the world and forgetting about one’s spiritual well being. This track stands out to me because she uses the same horns as the Shawty Lo track “Dey Know”. The banger “Fresh” is another track  where Ghagged displays strong lyrical content.  I love this particular line “I got ah big brown round and you can all kiss it/ and thats about all i got for being explicit”.  “Kiss Me” is another great track where Ghagged expresses how much God has blessed her life and continues to keep her spiritually strong.  Note that all the singing vocals on the album were done by her, which will leave the average joe questioning “am I  listening to the next L-Boogie”.  My personal Favorite is a hot joint rightfully titled “Fire”.  Its a bouncy little number where the listener gets an ear-full of that good ole Hip Hop fire. 

The production on the record was done by Ghagged herself, G.I.M.J (her husband), and the one and only Joe City. I think what truly stands out to me about this recording is the fact that all the lyrics are clean. I can play this album for my grandmother and my nine year old niece without having to worry about offending or poisoning either one of them.  If you have a daughter I strongly encourage you to play this album for her. Oh yeah I forgot to mention that its a free download. Quality music for free, what more could one want. Enjoy!
